Where does your favorite car come from? And as a result the automaker's parent company, FCA US LLC, was named the Corporation of the Year for 2016 by the Great Lakes Women's Business Council.
According to Tom Finelli, Vice President of Purchasing and Supplier Quality at FCA North America, "FCA US is committed to creating a diverse and sustainable supply base that directly reflects our customers... Being honored with Corporation of the Year by the Great Lakes Women's Business Council demonstrates our commitment to women-owned businesses, which we believe is a critical element to both developing vehicles that resonate with our customers and supporting the communities where we operate."
FCA US LLC stipulates that 8.5 percent of the items necessary to build the cool cars that we love come from suppliers that are certified as minority owned, according to the organization's diversity goals. The automaker's women-owned procurements are stipulated at three percent. Last year the automaker spent approximately $2.9 billion, or about eight percent, sourcing from some 215 suppliers, all of which are minority-owned and women-owned. The automaker has spent nearly $53 billion sourcing from minority-owned suppliers and women-owned suppliers since 1983. FCA US LLC has also sourced items from suppliers that are veteran-owned as well.
Michelle Richards, President of the Great Lakes Women's Business Council tells the automaker: "FCA US is a partner and supporter of many certification organizations that assist Tier 1 suppliers with achieving their minority-owned and women-owned sourcing goals... They have been a leader in the supplier diversity sector. Great Lakes Women's Business Council is proud to have such a strong corporate member as FCA US as part of our membership and community."
