Car manufacturers do things that let you drive in more ways than driving a new 2014 Dodge Dart around Akron, whether to work or running errands.  Chrysler Group LLC is helping drive social change with charitable efforts like the company's recent volunteer efforts to provide 70,000 meals in conjunction with the international relief organization Stop Hunger Now.

Packaging approximately 350 pounds of vegetables, 2,900 pounds of soy, 7,000 pounds of rice, and a mix of seasonings, 260 of the company's employees assembled meals for relief programs and school meal programs in other countries.

The meal program also coincides with the company's volunteer program, which was renamed "Motor Citizens," and which provides opportunities for employees to earn time off for their volunteer activities.

"As a company, we are committed to making service to others part of our daily mission...  Over the years, we've invested more than half a billion dollars in charitable organizations to help build strong communities, while our volunteer activities have impacted millions of lives.  Wherever possible, we will put volunteer hours behind our grants to better drive social change.  Today's event to help alleviate hunger demonstrates the enthusiasm and commitment that Chrysler employees bring to serving our communities," said Jody Trapasso, Chrysler Group LLC Senior Vice President for External Affairs.

Car manufacturers do more than just build cars like the 2014 Dodge Dart, which you can find at your local Dodge dealership serving Akron, Brunswick Auto Mart -- they help build stronger communities and help drive social change by promoting charitable and volunteer efforts.

"We have created new tools, including the Motor Citizens volunteer website, to better meet the needs of our employee volunteers and our non-profit partners who are driving social change...  The Chrysler Motor Citizens volunteer program goes beyond the walls of our offices to help build strong communities both here at home and around the world," said Trapasso.
